Also known as Ring-necked Parakeet. Although from Asia and Africa this parakeet was a popular pet and escapees have established themselves in many countries where their populations have reached considerable numbers. An introduced species in Singapore where it is on the increase. There are four recognised subspecies.

Migrant found in secondary forests, old plantations, mangroves, open scrub, grasslands and parkland. 19 cm. Breeds across C Siberia, east to N China, Korea, Japan, and Kamchatka and south to E Tibetan Plateau; winters in Indian sub-continent, S China, and most of Southeast Asia, east to Sulawesi and Lesser Sundas.
